Getting started

SkullBot permissions and the bot role

Updated:

Short answer

The bot needs only the permissions of the modules you enable and a role placed above the roles it manages. Module status in the dashboard shows what is missing.

Role hierarchy

Discord lets a bot assign roles, kick and ban only people whose highest role is below the bot highest role. A role managed by an integration or another bot cannot be assigned manually. If a role from a menu, verification or level reward is not given, check its position first.

A module does not work: what to check

  1. Open Overview in the dashboard and look at Module status. Every problem says what to grant the bot.
  2. Check that the bot role is above the target role.
  3. Check the bot permissions in the specific channel (a channel can override them).
  4. After fixing, click Check again.

Frequently asked questions

What does "role is above the bot role" mean?

The bot cannot assign a role that sits higher than its own. Drag the bot role higher in Server settings, Roles.

Can I give the bot Administrator?

You can, but you do not have to. The specific permissions from the table are enough and safer.
