Spam protection: links, cross-channel spam, filters and the honeypot

Updated:

Short answer

Combine the layers: link blocking removes links and invites, spam detection catches messages sprayed across channels, spam filters watch a single channel and the honeypot catches bots that write everywhere.

Removes messages with http links, www links and Discord invites. The action after detection: delete the message, kick or ban (with a log in the chosen channel). An administrator only loses the message. You can add exceptions: roles, role names, channels and users.

Cross-channel spam detection

Counts on how many different channels the same person writes in a short time. By default 4 channels in 6 seconds: the bot deletes those messages and the next ones for 20 seconds, then takes the action (delete with log, kick or ban). You can also count plain messages without links. Administrators and the owner only lose messages.

In-channel spam filters

FilterDefaultWhat it detects
Mentionsmore than 5A message with many user and role mentions
Capital lettersabove 70%Shouting in capitals (from 12 letters in a message)
Repeats3 times in 30 sThe same text sent over and over (links in the text are ignored)
Flood6 messages in 5 sPosting too fast

Enter 0 to turn a filter off. The bot deletes the message and posts a short notice that removes itself. After 3 violations within a minute it mutes the author for 10 minutes (both values are configurable, 0 turns muting off). Administrators, people with Manage Messages and chosen roles and channels are skipped.

Honeypot: the trap channel

The bot creates a channel where everyone can write, but a warning (in Polish and English at once) asks people not to. Whoever posts is punished: just deletion, a kick or a ban. Spam bots write everywhere, so they fall into the trap.

  • By default the bot deletes all messages of that person from 5 seconds before and 5 seconds after the trap post, in every channel. Both windows can be set from 0 to 60 seconds.
  • Configurable: channel name, embed title and text, category for the new channel, whether the window also applies to kicks and bans, how much history a ban deletes and whether staff is skipped.
  • Configure it in the dashboard (Moderation, Honeypot) or with /honeypot setup.

Bot guard

Bots without the chosen role are kicked or banned and their messages vanish. Optionally the bot deletes unknown webhooks. Before adding a trusted bot, put the protection to sleep for 10 minutes, give the bot the role and resume.

Frequently asked questions

Will the spam filters punish moderators?

No. Administrators and people with Manage Messages are skipped, as are the chosen roles and channels.

What if a real person writes in the honeypot?

They get the chosen punishment, which is why the warning is in Polish and English. At first set the action to "only delete messages" and turn on kick or ban once you are sure.

How do I turn off muting for spam?

In the spam filters set "Mute after this many violations" to 0. The bot will only delete messages.
