Moderation commands: ban, kick, mute, warn and case history

Updated:

Short answer

Ban, kick, mute and warn are saved as numbered cases you can browse with /cases. /ban supports temporary bans (for example 7d) that the bot lifts by itself.

Commands and required permissions

CommandWhat it doesWho can use it
/banBans a user, optionally for a time (duration: 30m, 12h, 7d, 2w, one year at most) and deletes their messages from the last 1h, 8h, 16h or 2 days.Ban Members permission
/kickKicks a user from the server with a reason.Administrator (the bot needs Administrator too)
/muteMutes a user for a time given in seconds, minutes, hours or days (from 5 seconds to 24 days).Administrator (the bot needs Administrator too)
/warnSubcommands create, list, info, edit, remove and clear for warnings.Moderate Members permission
/casesModeration case history: user (paged list) and info (details of a number).Moderate Members permission
/banhistoryA user ban record from the bot archive.Ban Members

Temporary bans

Add the duration option to /ban, for example 7d. The bot stores the expiry date and checks every minute whether a ban has expired. When it does, the bot unbans the user and records an "unban" case. A ban without a time is permanent and removes an earlier temporary ban.

Case history with /cases

Every warning, mute, kick, ban, temporary ban and unban gets a number that is unique on the server (#1, #2, ...). Actions the bot takes by itself are saved too: warning escalation, spam mutes and raid punishments.

  • /cases user:@person shows 10 cases per page, newest first.
  • /cases info number:12 shows the reason, moderator, date and length of the punishment.

Modlog

The Modlog module (Moderation tab) posts joins, leaves, kicks, mutes, bans, unbans, edits and deleted messages to the chosen channel. You can turn off selected event types and exclude channels.

Frequently asked questions

How do I ban for a limited time?

Use /ban with the duration option, for example 7d. Allowed units: m, h, d, w, one year at most.

Can I see all punishments of a person?

Yes, with /cases user. It shows warnings, mutes, kicks, bans and unbans with numbers.

Why does /mute say the bot lacks Administrator?

That command needs Administrator on the bot. The alternative is muting through warning escalation, which only needs the Moderate Members permission.
